 SPECIAL DESIGNS FOR HIGHLY CONTAMINATED ENVIRONMENTS
"TCAX" AND "KCAX" LIP DESIGNS
“TCAX” and “KCAX” designs are economical solutions to the special problems of sealing
shafts in highly contaminated or abrasive environments. Examples of such environments
are found in most agricultural and earth-moving applications.
Both the “TCAX” and “KCAX” designs feature a steel outer case specially configured to
guard the assembly against contaminants. This outer case guard, which comes within
.010 inches diametrical clearance of the shaft, prevents rocks, sand, and windings from
reaching the seal lips. It is this unique configuration which makes these designs so
economical. Because other solutions require several components to achieve the same
results, they cost far more to produce and assemble.
EXTENDED AND MULTIPLE LIP DESIGNS
A major cause of shortened seal life is external contamination gathering under the primary
seal lip. This results in premature seal and shaft wear causing early system leakage. The
designs of standard two lip seals such as a TBY or a TC utilize a dust exclusion lip that is
not sufficient for applications with high levels of contamination. For these more demanding
applications, special designs such as the “TC3” and “TC3S” are recommended.
